3mm 01 steel tempered to 59rc, blade length app 100 mm total length app 110 mm handle, tang tapered to 1.5mm to improve balance and feel, scales of stabilised Pohutakawa with white G10 liners and stainless steel loveless bolts and thong tube. The Puukko is a truly all around camping, bushcraft and hunting knife, this 1 is also a bit different in that I have ground on a single sided bevel, like a chisel grind, of 26degrees giving awesome control in any woodworking tasks, whilst also giving a more controlled cut for any kitchen chores. the larger bevel also makes control when sharpening and stropping even easier than a normal Scandi ground blade. please note the edge ground on this side would suite a right handed user. as can be seen below the Puukko comes with a high fit top quality veg tan hide sheath with Scandinavian dropper. SOLD
The Necker
3mm 01 steel at 59rc with hand made vegetable tan hide sheath. 26 degree Scandi grind and 90 degree spine, these blades are very popular as both back up blades, fire lighting / tinder prep tools or as a light weight fixed option where weight is a consideration. SOLD currently on trade me
Mors Kochanski Tribute knife
This is my interpretation of the blades seen to be made by Mors on various videos which he would hand out to those on a course without an appropriate blade. Mine however are made with far better blade steel and a few other build improvements, to this end my knives have:
A blade 4 fingers long
An edge which curves continually along its length
The edge comes close to the handle so no wasted blade
A point which is between the spine and the center point for 'drilling' holes
A fine sharp edge and point primarily for working wood (it must be able to carve a netting needle and spindle and make a try stick)
Carbon steel so it can be used as a steel in fire lighting
The scales are made of seasoned ash, a wood used for hockey stick and other handles as per MK`s
A handle which is 'full length'
Handle is more oblong than oval for grip
The improvements I have made to the original build included
2mm 01 steel. The blades are given my special heat treatment resulting in an RC of 59 to 60 for a great edge, whilst remaining an easy to sharpen
Blade’s hand sanded to 600g for a working finish, a nod to Mors unpolished blades
26-degree 'Scandi' grind for durability and 90deg spine for scraping a ferrocerium rod and other materials
Full tang construction to improve strength and balance
Scales are glued in place with G-flex resin to increase durability and prevent water ingress.
3 tubes are fitted, rather than pins, for either a lanyard cord and or lashing to a pole. This increases reach and improves effectiveness when gathering materials such as thatching, not to make a spear!
Handles are smoothed rather than polished and sealed with 3 layers of Danish oil
This knife has been built as a bushcrafting knife and as such these blades are designed for camp work such as working wood to produce useful items or for kitchen duties whilst making short work of any guttin n gillin duties required etc. I am happy to do light battening to produce kindling or truncate pieces of timber with this knife but is not made to be beaten thorough a large piece of well-seasoned knotty oak or bashed in-to a tree and stood on! If you want to do this use an axe or buy 1 of my survival blades. Note this knife is offered as a `foundation` knife giving the opportunity to purchase a high quality blade but without the costs incurred with the high end hand finishing of a full custom build, which is a time consuming and so costlier process. Supplied with a custom top grade vegetable tanned sheath for dedicated neck carry. Blade length 90mm handle 100mm. Please note measurements are approximate, and adjustable, as all work is carried out by hand and eye. $200 plus P+P
